How long do the Brestie bags last before they need to be replaced?
Silicone is an extremely durable material and our silicone bags are made to last forever! There is no need to replace them as long as they still appear in good condition. If they do, however, contract some wear and tear or visible damage, it’s best to replace them (although we have not heard of a case of damage/tearing to our bags yet!)
How much milk can my Brestie bags hold?
Due to the flexible nature of silicone, it may be a little difficult to accurately measure its volume. Our first batch of bags were marked to hold 300ml, but the new bags have since been remeasured more accurately and we can confidently say that they can contain 250ml of fluid.
How do I sterilise my Brestie bags?
You can sterilise your Brestie bags by boiling them in a pot of water for 10 minutes before use, or popping them in a microwave steam steriliser.
How do I clean my Brestie bags?
To clean your bags once done using them, simply wash them in warm soapy water. You can use a soft brush or a silicone brush (check out our store for some perfectly sized brushes for your Brestie bags!). Good news: you can also simply put the bags in the dishwasher and wash them in a normal cycle! Note that some dishwasher soaps may make the bags appear a little cloudy, but this in no way impacts the quality of the bags or your breastmilk, and you can always sterilise them in boiling water before every use to be safe.
Can the Brestie bags be frozen?
Yes, you can do just about anything with these bags, including putting them in the freezer, refrigerator, oven, microwave, boiling water, dishwasher, cooler bag, etc. Silicone can withstand extreme heat and cold! (Just be careful, though, breastmilk should only be reheated or thawed by putting the bag in a bowl of hot water – NEVER in the microwave).
How do I thaw my breastmilk once frozen?
As mentioned above, simply put the whole Brestie bag containing your breastmilk in a bowl of warm water, and it will thaw and reheat the milk within a few minutes.
How do I mark the express date of my breastmilk?
You can mark the express date and quantity on your bags (we prefer the smooth backside of the bags) using a whiteboard marker. (We recommended writing the quantity because breastmilk expands when it freezes and also if you freeze your Bresties horizontally.) To wash off the date for the next use, simply wipe it off using a warm wet cloth.
